Starlands explores the idea that we are all shaped by the layers of our experiences.

As I painted, I imagined fragments of distant worlds—or perhaps ancient volcanic landscapes—suspended in an endless universe. Each textured form became its own landscape, carrying memories, resilience and the marks left by time. Though they appear separate, they remain connected by the space around them—a reminder that even when we feel isolated, we are still part of something greater.

Creating the textures became an emotional process in itself. Torn paper, grains of sand and modelling paste were layered into the surface, each material bringing its own character and emotion. Some areas became rugged and weathered, reflecting the strength forged through life's challenges, while others remained softer and quieter, offering moments of calm and reflection.

The deep blues speak to me of stillness, mystery and the infinite cosmos, while the orange and gold emerge gently from the darkness like distant stars. Rather than demanding attention, I wanted these luminous details to reveal themselves slowly, reminding us that hope often appears in the quietest moments.

For me, Starlands is a reflection on resilience and wonder. It is about embracing every layer of our journey and trusting that, whether in the darkest skies or the deepest waters, there are always places where light quietly finds its way.
